Canadian BIPOC Composers Shared Collecting Initiative
Building on Carolyn Doi (University of Saskatchewan) and Janet Hilts’ BIPOC Canadian Composers project in 2021, the CAML Collections Committee are embarking on a plan to systematically collect the works of BIPOC Canadian Composers in a collaborative and coordinated approach.
In 2022, CAML Collection Committee members populated a spreadsheet that lists websites and purchase links for each of the composers identified in the Doi/Hilts project. A subsequent call went out to Canadian Music Libraries to voluntarily commit to collecting the scores of select composers on the BIPOC Canadian Composers list. Ultimately, through this work, the Committee hopes to explore future possibilities for systematic collecting to achieve broader coverage of Canadian musical works.
